About
History & Locality
This polytechnic college was started in the year 1981 at Aranthangi to give a fillip to education to this backward area. It was initially housed in temporary sheds located at Azhianilai on the outskirts of Aranthangi. It moved to its present location with permanent buildings on the Aranthangi – Avudaiyarkoil Highway in the year 1983. Situated on a sprawling campus of 20 hectares in has an imposing main building and additional buildings for housing the laboratories and workshops. The new buildings were declared opened by His Excellency the Governor of Tamil Nadu on November 1983.
A new block consisting of classrooms and laboratories has come up with World Bank assistance.
Two hostels for men and a separate hostel for women, fully furnished provide comfort and the right climate to the students.
Full fledged staff quarters have also come up under the World Bank scheme for the various categories of staff right from the Principal upto the basic servants.
With no big industries or higher institutes of learning around this area. This Polytechnic stands as a beacon of light in this part of Tamil Nadu. To add feather to its crown, the Community Polytechnic Scheme has been Sanctioned to this institution by the Ministry of Human resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi to help and provide free training to the unemployed rural youth surrounding this area.
In addition the Canada – India Institutional Co – operation project scheme has also been sanctioned to this institution by the Commissioner of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu from June 2003 on wards to impart training to the needy people.
The Administrative block hosts Principal room, Administrative office, Civil Engineering department, the Computer Engineering department, the Electronics & Communication Engineering department, the Mechanical Engineering department. and modern office practice. There are additional individual buildings like Workshop block, Auditorium, Boys hostel, Girls hostel, Guest house and Principal Quarters and staffs quarters, to cater variety of need.
Departments have equipped their laboratories sufficiently to cater to the needs of the various Diploma programs that are offered. Computer facilities with the Internet Connectivity are available in all the departments. A state of art E- Smart Class rooms are available for each and every department which will mix technology and experience to make the student learning a wonderful and delightful experience.
The college is thus growing from strength to strength and gaining recognition for its contribution to the cause of Engineering Education. Since its inception, the college has striven incessantly to provide Quality Education and to produce skilled knowledgeable engineers.
MANDATE
Government Polytechnic College, Aranthangi is to offer full-time three year Diploma courses in the areas of Civil, Mechanical, Electronics and Communication, Computer Engineering and Modern Office Practices to both male and female candidates who have success fully completed the 10th standard and 12th standard school education , using state evaluation system to meet the requirements of industries .
The admissions are made according to the State Government prescribed norms. The Polytechnic follows the curriculum and syllabus prescribed by the State Board of Technical Education and training, Tamilnadu.
The Polytechnic is also permitted to offer non-formal parts-time courses for rural people under community polytechnic scheme following all the Government rules and regulations.
MISSION
Government polytechnic college, Aranthangi is a co-educational institution offering formal diploma courses.
The polytechnic college also aims to provide continuing education and non-formal course to both male and female students and adults.
We propose to achieve our mission by offering variety of programmes and courses that the nearby community needs.
The polytechnic aims at creating opportunities for self-employment by giving more technical skills to our students. The institution proposes to arrange field visits and in-plant training in the related fields.
The polytechnic strives to excel through competent leadership, participatory management system and continuous enrichment of knowledge.

Examination
Board Examination
Board Examination in all subjects of all Semesters under the scheme of examination will be conducted at the end of each semester.
The sessional marks in all the subjects will be awarded on the basic of continuous internal assessment made during the semester concerned. For each subject, 25 marks are allotted for internal assessment and 75 marks are allotted for each for Board Examination.

Eligibility for appearing for the Board Examination
1. The candidate must have put in a minimum of 80% of attendance in the semester concerned.
2. should have earned a progress certificate in studies from the Head of the Institution.
3. Have to satisfactorily complete the course of study prescribed by the State Board of Technical Education
4. Should be in possession of satisfactory conduct and character.
5. Have to register and remit the prescribed examination fee.
